The maritime Barcelona - 1 day

Sun, sea, beach and boats

Barcelona, that's most of all sun, beach, ships and ocean. You can find many good seafood restaurants in Barceloneta, the district between the harbour and beach.

During this one day tour you can get to know the maritime side of Barcelona, both kulinary and the sights. Don't forget to pack your bathing suit and sun block.

During the Middle Ages Barcelona was part of the most important sea powers of the Mediterranean and it has a long seefaring tradtition that you can still recognise: the old shipyards, in which the Museu Maritime is located today, the old harbour, which is the yacht harbour today, the Palau de Mar, former storage hall for the shipping of grains, today the museum for catalan history, and eventually Barcelona was the endpoint of Columbus' second world trip.

Now you're going to walk past the yacht harbour to the district Barceloneta. This district has a chequered history. You can still recognize it's origin as home of the fishermen because mainly restaurants offering fish and seafood are located here. Stroll through the district to the beach. You will recognize the particular geometry of the district: the streets are all proceeding parallel, completely on the contrary of the gothic district's clutter.

During a walk at the beach you can breathe in the fresh air. Walk past the big copper-coloured fish to the olympic harbour.
